Main occupations in a sector
The main occupations held by people working in a given sector of the economy.
The list gives the 15 main occupations, but excludes any occupation that
represents less than 1% of employment in the sector.
When employment in a sector is very low in a given region, we do not publish
the list of main occupations in the sector.
Main sectors of an occupation
The main sectors of the economy in which a given occupation is practised.
The list gives the five main sectors, but excludes any sector that represents less than 1% of
employment in the occupation.
When employment in an occupation is very low in a given region, we do not publish the list of
the occupation’s main sectors of activity.
Major group
All occupational groups that share the first two digits of the four-digit National Occupational Classification (NOC) code.

Manufacturing
This sector comprises establishments primarily engaged in the mechanical or physical
transformation of materials or substances into new products.
These products may be finished, in the sense that they are ready to be used or consumed,
or semi-finished, in the sense that an establishment may use them as raw materials for
further manufacturing.
The manufacturing sector includes food, beverages, and tobacco; textile and textile products;
clothing and leather products; wood products; paper; printing and related support activities;
petroleum, coal, and chemicals; plastics and rubber; non-metallic mineral products; primary
metal manufacturing; fabricated metal products; machinery; computer, electronic, and electrical
products; transportation equipment; furniture and related products; and miscellaneous manufacturing.
