Job prospects-by occupation

Job market trends for an occupation over the next five years.
Emploi-Québec carries out research on job prospects by occupation for Québec as a whole, for each economic region (the Côte-Nord and Nord-du-Québec regions are combined), and for Greater Montreal and Greater Québec using a five-year forecast of anticipated trends in employers labor demand and the state of the labor supply. These results do not factor in job quality, but, instead, enable evaluation of the chances of labour market entry for the people capable of exercising this occupation.

Job prospects by occupation are listed according to four classification levels :

• Good prospects

  Given anticipated labor demand and the unemployment situation at the start of the period, job market entry potential will be good.
  This analysis should not be interpreted as a guarantee of jobs for persons in any specific occupational group.

• Fair prospects

  Given anticipated labor demand and the unemployment situation at the start of the period, job market entry potential will be fair.
  Although people in these occupational groups will be facing strong competition, they can still be optimistic about finding a job provided they adopt an appropriate job search strategy.

• Limited prospects

  Given anticipated labor demand and the unemployment situation at the start of the period, job market entry potential will be limited.
  Although people in these occupational groups will be facing strong competition, they can still be optimistic about finding a job provided they adopt an appropriate job search strategy.

• Not published (NP)

  For some occupational groups, no analysis of prospects is presented due either to the small number of jobs, a lack of qualitative information, or the absence of a labor market.

Job prospects-by industry sector

Emploi-Québec has analyzed job prospects in terms of growth, over a five-year period, using the main labor market indicators. The information is presented by industry sector for Québec as a whole and by region.
Emploi-Québec uses the industry-based prospects to estimate job prospects by occupation. If fewer than 1,500 people are employed in a sector, regional estimates for that sector are unavailable.

Job title

Title given to a trade or an occupation.
The National Occupational Classification (NOC) lists some 30,000 job titles used on the job market. Each title corresponds to one of 520 NOC occupational groups.
